The event, presented by platinum sponsor Digicel BVI, will be held from 9-11 July.
Organizers announced on Monday that ten teams will be participating in the annual event. Teams will represent Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Bequia, BVI, Puerto Rico, St. Croix, St. John, St. Thomas, Virgin Gorda and Sail Caribbean. Team BVI, headed by DonTae Hodge, won last year's event.
“We are delighted to be having ten teams taking part in this year’s regatta and we are looking forward to some exciting races, which should be of a very high standard, as is normally the case,” stated Event Director Brent Brydon.
KATS Chairman John Lewis pointed out that the objective of the Premier’s Cup is to bring young men and women from the Caribbean region to sail competitively and to encourage and foster Caribbean friendships.
He said KATS started here in the BVI about 20 years ago, but this is its 12th regatta.
According to Lewis, they are looking forward to ensuring that more youths benefit from the programme. Over the years, more than 1000 youths have taken part in the swim programme, more than 600 have benefitted from the basic programme, 150 in the sailing programme and an estimated 100 have passed through the scuba programme.
